The start point for the best source of fleet information |
Fleets could be fined up to £20,000 for minor breaches of health and safety law according to new legal guidelines introduced last month.
Under the new regime by the Sentencing Guidelines Council, if a work-related death leads to prosecution for breaching the Health and Safety Work Act 1974, the fine will be "seldom less than £100,000" and may be much more.
If a company is convicted of corporate manslaughter, the fine is likely to be £500,000 or more.
According to fleet risk company Essential Risk Consultancy, while corporate manslaughter prosecution remains remote, Health and Safety at Work cases against UK firms are growing far more common.
