Volvo launches S60-estate model

Date: 06 July 2010

Volvo has launched a S60-size estate, the V60 - its first rival to cars like BMW 3-series Touring.

The sports wagon has 430 litres of space with rear seats in place, fractionally less than the competing BMW with 460 litres.

"The typical sports wagon customer is an S60 buyer who would like some extra space and flexibility, but without the slightest compromise on sporty design and exciting driving properties," said Volvo Cars president Stephen Odell.

There will be four petrol engines available: 1.6 150hp, 1.6 180hp, 2.0 240hp and 3.0 304hp, as well as three diesel variants: 2.0 163hp, 2.4 205hp and a Driv-e 1.6 115hp.

The car comes with Volvo's City Safety Technology while its Pedestrian Dectection with full autobrake is an additional option.

A styling pack is also available which includes front and rear skid plates, a front decor trim, side scuff plates, special exhaust tailpipes and 18-inch wheels.

Volvo expects to sell around 5000 V60s in 2011 in the UK. The initial annual target worldwide is 50,000 cars, 90% of which will go to European buyers. The five largest markets are Sweden, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy and Germany.

Specification and prices will be announced in August and first cars will be delivered to customers in autumn 2010.
