Nissan Leaf price up by £2k

Date: 17 March 2011

The Nissan Leaf

Nissan has increased the price of its electric vehicle the Leaf by £2000 due to a shift in the exchange rate with the Yen.

The increase in price from 1 March means the Leaf now costs £25,990 after the £5000 government incentive rather than £23,990.

The carmaker said the Yen had deteriorated by 14% against the Pound since the car was priced last year but that the £2000 increase is only a 6.3% hike for buyers.

Any orders placed before March will have the original price honoured.

The Leaf will be built at the company's Sunderland plant from 2013 but Nissan said this move could not guarantee a price drop for the car but would mean it "will not have the currency fluctuations to consider".
