Vauxhall takes a stand on CO2 performance

Date: 11 October 2011   |   Author:

Vauxhall's European marketing boss Alain Visser has defended the brand's performance in low-CO2 markets, claiming the firm is approaching the sector with a view to sell as many vehicles as possible, rather than chase the lowest possible emissions. Visser claimed 50% of Vauxhall cars registered have an Ecoflex branding, which was launched four years ago to mark out the lower-emitting models.

"There are two ways: the marketing and PR way or the sales way," he said. "To have the lowest-CO2 engines is not our strategy - we want to sell as many low-CO2 cars as we can, and 50% of our sales is a fact.

"There are some manufacturers with lower-CO2 models, but is that very relevant if customers have to pay more for them than the tax back? It's a nice PR and marketing strategy," he declared. "If the aim is to go for the lowest CO2 it is easy, but we don't compromise on driving dynamics."
