Advisory Fuel Rates revised

Date: 12 June 2012   |   Author: Rachel Burgess

The latest Advisory Fuel Rates for drivers claiming work mileage in company cars have been confirmed by HMRC.

Reviewed quarterly, the new rates, valid from 1 June 2012, show minimal changes, with diesel rates for cars over 2000cc falling by a penny to 18p.

All LPG figures for 1400cc or less, 1401cc to 2000cc and over 2000cc rise by one penny to 11p, 13p and 19p respectively. All petrol rates remain static as do diesel engines sized 1600cc or less and 1601cc to 2000cc.

The fuel price used by HMRC to calculate the rates was 135.8p for petrol cars and 141.7p for diesels, which compares with the current average of 135.4p and 141.5p per litre, according to Arval.

AFRs have been revised on a quarterly basis for 12 months now, after the fleet industry put pressure on HMRC to make relevant adjustments. However, in agreeing to a more frequent review, HMRC withdrew its commitment to make interim changes if fuel prices vary by 5% or more.
