ALD survey sparks rethink on fuel reclaims

Date: 28 February 2012   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

More than 60% of larger businesses will be reviewing their fuel claims procedures this year, according to a YouGov survey of 100 financial directors in charge of firms with 500-999 employees, carried out for ALD Automotive.

The leasing firm puts the move down to a combination of increased fears of a HMRC crackdown, and more awareness of the impact of inaccurate or fraudulent claims on costs.

"With HMRC cracking down on companies who aren't able to provide auditable records it's in the interest of every business to ensure that employees driving on work-related journeys file accurate mileage reports and that appropriate online systems are put in place to manage this area," said ALD Automotive boss Keith Allen.

"Not only will it reduce the risk of the employer and employee being liable to face action but experience suggests that significant savings can also be achieved in fuel cost".
