Chevrolet gears up for product push

Chevrolet Colorado concept

Chevrolet will introduce a new and more efficient engine with the new Cruze Station Wagon that will be the first of a potential trio of new products for the brand.

Due this autumn, the 1.7-litre VCDi diesel will offer CO2 of 119g/km and 130hp, compared with the 163hp 2.0-litre that goes from 141g/km of CO2, the current most efficient model in the lower medium car's range.

"In the UK that engine is very important, even more so than the new [estate] body style if anything," said a Chevrolet spokesman.

The firm is also putting together plans for its Colorado pick-up, shown in concept form last year.

Company insiders predict it could be on sale early next year, as part of Chevrolet's niche portfolio of iconic models with the high-performance Corvette and Camero and the plug-in electric Volt.

The company is also looking at the possibility of launching a sporty three-door four-seat coupe, based on the TRU 140S concept car, as a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Veloster or Vauxhall Astra GTC.
