Fleet fears over poor driver eyesight

Date: 08 February 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

A survey of fleet managers at 164 companies revealed that over half are concerned that some of their employees may be driving with poor eyesight.

The survey, conducted by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, also revealed that less than two-thirds of fleet managers knew that the minimum requirement for eyesight is the ability to read a numberplate from 20.5m.

Almost a quarter believed the law requires a full eye test when, in fact, the numberplate method is the only necessity. Despite this, 70% of those surveyed believed that they fully understood the legal obligations.

This comes as the Government is considering lowering the numberplate eyesight test to 17.5m.
