Mobile repairs decrease vehicle offroad times

Date: 03 April 2012

Total Accident Management has recorded a 29% improvement in its fleet customers' average vehicle off-road times between 2008 and 2011.

Putting the progress down to increased use of mobile repair solutions, Total's average customer VOR time including weekends has reduced from 11.2 days in 2008 to 7.9 days in 2011.

Total said improved VOR times means "fleets also benefit from lower hire costs, as fleets are able to get their vehicles back on the road quicker".

Currently around 28.6% of repairs are carried out by mobile Smart repair and bodyshops while 71.4% are via the conventional bodyshop route. Vehicle off-the-road times range from zero in the case of mobile smart repair and typically three to seven days through a bodyshop.

Penny Stoolman, Total's managing director, said: "Speed and cost of repair are constantly under scrutiny by fleet operators, and we have been working hard to improve repair efficiency, helping fleet managers keep costs under control."
