Jaguar has announced a revised engine line-up for its executive sector XF model.
The entry-level 163hp 2.2-litre diesel has a 3.1mpg improvement to 55.4mpg, as well as emissions dropping by 14g/km to 135g/km, while the higher-powerd version of the same engine gets a 10hp power boost to take it to 200hp and shares the same efficiency figures as the 163hp version.
The new engine line-up will feature in the existing saloon from September, with prices starting from £29,940, as well as the forthcoming Sportbrake, which goes on sale late this year.
The BMW 5-series Touring rival will start from £31,940, £2000 more than the equivalent saloon version and with a lower starting point than its German rivals.
As well as the most fuel-efficient 2.2-litre engines, the Sportbrake will host a 3.0-litre V6 diesel with either 270- or 275hp.
Both the saloon and the Sportbrake XF will adopt Jag's eight-speed automatic gearbox and stop/start as standard across the range, improving emissions on the V6 diesel engine by 6%.
The XJ luxury saloon will also benefit from the updated gearbox and stop/start.
The range is expected to achieve from 47.0mpg while emitting 159g/km of CO2, a 14% improvement. The suspension has also been improved to offer better ride comfort, said Jaguar.
