British Gas announces free nationwide electric vehicle charging

Date: 08 July 2013

British Gas is offering free nationwide electric vehicle charging with funding from the Government's new EV charging subsidy, which is intended to encourage uptake.

The package includes installation of a residential unit until April 2015 and access to the Polar public network of 1800 charging points until April 2014.

Customers will receive a survey and installation from a British Gas electrician as well as access to an online account management and smartphone app to help keep track of energy use.

To qualify for the free offer, EV owners will need to be within O2 coverage areas, as the charging units use the O2 data network to collect usage data, but do not need to be O2 customers.
