Chevin launches fleet management app

Date: 12 August 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Chevin is set to launch a mobile app for businesses using its Fleetwave management system. Known as Fleetwave Mobile, the system can gather operational information using pictures, bar codes, QR codes or via a manual input and does not need an internet connection to store data - it can be uploaded later when the phone is connected to the internet.

The app is available on Android and Windows smartphones with an Apple iOS version on the way. It is due for launch "later this quarter".

This comes as managing director Ashley Sowerby hit out at the amount of apps aimed at fleet operators: "Too many appear to have been driven by the marketing department rather than by a genuine fleet need.

"It is disappointing because ultimately, it creates scepticism about the possibilities that apps offer rather than allowing them to be recognised for the advantages that they bring - speed, portability and a very direct kind of functionality."

He said of Fleetwave mobile: "Our approach. has been to make the core product as flexible as possible so that we can sit down with each company and decide on ways in which its productivity can be maximised, bearing in mind their particular needs.

"What we have produced is a highly adaptable mobile data gathering tool that has a wide variety of fleet-specific applications but which is also ideal for organisations where the fleet is simply a tool in the delivery of a product or service.

"For example, a technician inspecting a commercial vehicle for compliance could use a form generated within the app and so could a driver recording mileage and journey information, but FleetWave Mobile is equally suited to the driver of a van needing a signature to show a delivery has been made or a field worker for a utilities company who needs to record complex information."
