Over half of all drivers take photos at the wheel

Research by insurance company Dayinsure has revealed that 58% of drivers admit to taking photographs on their mobile phones at the wheel.

Of the 4777 drivers questioned, 46% confessed to checking emails on the move and 21% said they had updated their Facebook status while driving.

Managing director Steve Coppock said: "Mobile phones, especially smartphones with access to emails and social media, can be the most tempting distraction whilst driving, especially if you are stuck in traffic.

"Distractions at the wheel can be the main cause of road accidents. Not only is using a hand-held phone at the wheel dangerous, it is also illegal. We therefore urge motorists to switch off their phones and tune into road safety.

"Driver distraction causes most road accidents and it is clear many motorists still don't give their full attention 100% of the time when they are on the road.

"Whilst we live in a time-pressured society, motorists can't afford to multi-task at the wheel. It is time to stop taking unnecessary risks on the road and take full control behind the wheel."
