Call to reconsider electric car charge point installations

Date: 13 February 2014   |   Author: Martin Gurdon

Electric vehicle charging point operator ChargePoint is calling on end users to think carefully about efficient placement of infrastructure or risk usage problems.

It suggested having one charge point for every two vehicles, allowing people to plug in a vehicle in the morning, then moving it so a second employee can recharge their car in the afternoon.

It also called for having enough capacity for future provision, if the number of EVs rises.

It suggested having adequate signage, and placing charging stations near multiple parking spots to make them easy to access.

Another tip was to have a vehicle key drop-off point where staff can leave their keys to allow cars to be moved easily and quickly once charged.

It recommended having an easily accessed email list for EV drivers, allowing them to book charging slots. There are also mobile apps and website facilities that allow pre-booking.
