Drivers not insured for business

A third of fleet drivers who use their own car for company business have admitted they aren't insured for the mileage they cover, according to a survey of 2000 drivers from Masternaut, which also revealed that these drivers also completed an average of 4708 business miles a year.
A fifth respondents said they have had an accident while driving for work. When asked who would be liable in terms of insurance for an accident, 80% said they would be, while the other 20% mistakenly thought their company would be liable.
The survey from the telematics firm also found that 70% of those questioned don't have adequate driver training, aping recent findings by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, while 40% claimed they are unaware that their employers are obliged to provide training by law.
Responding to the issue of training, Martin Hiscox, CEO and chairman of Masternaut, said: "We are surprised that so few employers are offering their staff the chance to take driver training.
