Mini targets fleet with new five-door car

Date: 01 April 2014   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Mini is planning to up its stake in the fleet market with the addition of a new five-door lower medium model.

Traditionally far stronger in the retail market, the company's UK director and former fleet boss of parent firm BMW, Chris Brownridge, said the arrival of a forthcoming lower medium five-door model would see Mini take on the fleet market in a bigger way.

"There will be production models in the not too distant future that will broaden the Mini appeal in fleet in the same way.

"If you look at the Geneva concept [the next-generation Clubman with five doors] we can potentially move into the Golf, 1-series segment with confidence, so watch this space."

He added that the Business Edition trim level, aimed at fleets and currently only available with the Countryman, was likely to fan out across the range as the latest generation of models arrives.

"With the Countryman, we already have a Business Edition specific to the user-chooser market. It's been very successful, and I anticipate seeing this on future Mini models."
