Two thirds of motorists have said the price of motorway fuel should be capped so it is no more expensive than non-motorway fuel.
This adds to the three quarters of the 1463 drivers that feel motorway fuel is too expensive, in a survey conducted by motoring organisation RAC.
The RAC says fuel at motorway service stations can be up to 10p a litre more than the national average and is calling for motorway service station retailers to reduce their prices.
Just over 40% (44%) said they only buy fuel at a motorway service area when they have no other choice because they feel like they're being held to ransom over the price.
"We're calling for motorway fuel retailers to be more reasonable with their pricing. We feel it's only fair that the motorist is able to make a choice about how much they want to pay for fuel," said Simon Williams, RAC fuel spokesman.
This is a contrast to the news that this week three major supermarkets reduced the price of fuel by up to 2p per litre.
