The start point for the best source of fleet information

Tax disc abolishment confirmed

Date: 13 March 2014

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has confirmed the end of the vehicle tax disc, with the display of the paper disc not required from 1 October 2014.

The DVLA won't issue tax discs after the end of September, and existing ones can be removed from vehicles at that point as the DVLA will revert to relying on its digital record of taxed vehicles. There will also be a public online check facility of whether a vehicle is taxed, which will include rental vehicles.

A new direct debit service for paying road tax monthly, six-monthly or annually is also being introduced from the beginning of November, although this is not compatible with fleet schemes.

The Government has also announced the adoption of changes recommended in a review of the agency, including accelerating the DVLA's online operations and reducing the
admin burden on businesses.

The goal is "providing simpler bulk transactions for key customers such as the motor trade, fleet operators and hire companies," said roads minister Stephen Hammond.
