TfL considering C-charge payment app

Date: 05 August 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

TfL is considering a c-charge payment app

Transport for London is considering introducing a smartphone app to help drivers pay for the congestion charge. Should the proposal go ahead, it would replace the current text-message payment system that's only used by 0.6% of customers.

The app would allow customers to pay the charge, check and alter their accounts, view their auto pay balance and see the expiry dates of discounts.

Currently, the SMS payment method is used for or around 400 of the 130,000 transactions per day. The new smartphone app is currently part of a TfL public consultation along with a plan to refuse payments from third-party websites which TfL claims can mislead customers into paying over the odds for the congestion charge

"We are always aiming to improve services and use technology to improve the experience of our customers," said Garrett Emmerson, TfL's chief operating officer for surface transport. "By creating an app we will offer our customers a simple and effective way to pay the charge and provide them with a range of new functionality," continued Emmerson.
