One in four fleet drivers fear driverless cars will replace them

One in four business drivers fear they will be replaced by a driverless vehicle in their working lifetime, according to telematics provider Masternaut.
Over half (55%) of drivers aged between 25-34 said they were concerned that they will be replaced by an autonomous vehicle, while drivers aged 35 and over are less concerned with 34% of 35-44 year olds and 12% of 45-54 year olds worried that autonomous vehicles will replace them.
Company car drivers believe the biggest barrier for driverless cars rolling out onto UK roads is integration with normal vehicles (41%), updating road infrastructure (37%) and insurance issues (34%).
Should they have to work with driverless vehicles in the future, 15% of drivers said they would change their jobs, while another quarter (23%) said they wouldn't like it, but would continue doing their job. Only 9% said they would prefer working with autonomous vehicles.
"Driverless car technology is a very exciting development for the automotive industry and represents a major step change for UK roads, one of the biggest changes in history. Previously a science fiction dream, driverless cars are now very real and are being tested on our roads, and we're intrigued to see what the future holds for the technology," said Steve Towe, UK managing director at Masternaut.
