Aberdeen adds hydrogen Hyundais to city car club fleet

Aberdeen City Council is introducing two hydrogen-powered Hyundai ix35 off-roaders to its city car club scheme.
The cars were bought using funding from Scottish national transport agency Transport for Scotland, and the council hopes the new additions will encourage businesses and individuals to purchase hydrogen vehicles in the future.
The council added that the vehicles "mark the next step" in building a hydrogen infrastructure in the city and extending the use of hydrogen vehicles in the North East and Scotland.
Businesses and motorists will be able to use the cars on a pay-as-you-go basis later this year following a testing period. Once in full operation, the cars will be powered using locally-produced hydrogen.
The city currently has one hydrogen filling station - the largest in the UK, according to a spokeswoman, with plans to add more in the future.
"Today marks another important milestone for Aberdeen and its future-focused hydrogen strategy," said the council's lead member for hydrogen, Barney Crockett.
"Once again we are demonstrating that by taking the lead on developing and using new and innovative technologies, we can offer environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional methods of transport which rely on fossil fuels," he added.
