Date: 03 May 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

BMW has updated its i3 electric car with a new battery, which allows it to cover up to 195 miles - a 50% increase over the outgoing model.

On sale from July and costing from £27,830 after the Government's £4500 Plug-in Car Grant, the i3 now gains a 50% higher capacity battery at 94 amp hours compared to the previous version's 60amp hours.

BMW claims the new model can be charged in less than three hours, while the car allows multi-phase AC charging at 3.7, 7.4 or 11Kw as well as DC rapid charging.

The i3 range extender model has also been updated with the battery and can cover up to 276 miles while emissions are rated at 12g/km of CO2. It now costs from £30,980 including the Government grant.
