Highways England and Kent County Council have unveiled a raft of upgrades to the Dartford Crossing in order to improve journey times and reduce queuing on roads around the northbound approaches.
According to Highways England, the Kent side of the crossing suffers from "regular" congestion around local roads leading to the junctions nearest the bridge and tunnel - junction 1B, the Princess Road interchange and junction 1A.
The upgrades consist of:
Kent County Council and Highways England said they are working on plans in order to deliver the upgrades as soon as possible.
"We have already delivered better journeys for thousands of drivers at the Dartford Crossing by removing the tolling booths, and this is more good news for drivers," said roads minster Andrew Jones. "By upgrading traffic lights and carrying out other improvements we will help keep people moving and reduce the frustration of unpredictable journey times."
