Audi has revealed its new A4 Allroad upper medium estate ahead of it arriving in the UK this summer.

The jacked-up A4 - it has 34mm more ground clearance than the standard A4 - is powered by a range of engines that produce between 150hp and 272hp, while CO2 emissions drop by up to 21g/km across the range.

The most frugal model in the range is the 190hp 2.0-litre diesel, which, when equipped with the firm's seven-speed automatic gearbox, returns up to 57.7mpg and 128g/km of CO2, placing it in the 25% BIK bracket from April.

Audi claims part of the reduction in CO2 emissions is down to an updated start/stop system, which shuts down the engine when approaching a traffic light at less than 4mph.

The German company will also offer a 150hp 2.0-litre diesel model after the market launch. Although efficiency details have not been revealed yet, the engine in the A4 saloon - which we're running as a long-termer - returns 74.3mpg and 99g/km of CO2. However, that model is front-wheel-drive-only, whereas the Allroad has four-wheel-drive.

Luggage space is rated at 505 litres as standard, and 1510 litres with the rear seats folded down - the same as the A4 Avant.

Inside, Audi has also updated the Allroad's drive select mode with an expanded range of functions, with the addition of an offroad option, which adjusts the engine and transmission control, steering and driver assistance systems to operate offroad.

Meanwhile, the company's 8.3-inch infotainment system and Audi connect online services system feature inside, with the 12.3-inch 'virtual cockpit' LED display an optional extra.

The company's adaptive cruise control features on the Allroad as standard. It includes a traffic jam assist feature, which Audi claims that at up to 40mph, can take over the acceleration and braking, and help with steering inputs when in queues.

Other new features include the predictive efficiency assistant, park assist, cross-traffic assist rear, exit warning, collision avoidance assist, turn assist and the Audi pre sense systems.
