Tesla boosts Model S range with 100kWh upgrade

Tesla has updated its Model S luxury vehicle with a larger 100kWh battery which pushes the claimed range to 380 miles.
Currently, the all-wheel-drive 90D is capable of travelling for 346 miles between recharges, while the BusinessCar Techies-winning entry-level 60kWh version is able to travel for 248 miles between charges.
Called the P100D with Ludicrous mode, the American car company claims the Model S is capable of hitting 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, making it the third-fastest accelerating production car ever produced, according to Tesla.
UK pricing and availability for the pack is expected to be announced tomorrow.
The larger battery pack is also available on the forthcoming Model X SUV, meaning the car is able to achieve a 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds and the upgrade increases the range of the vehicle to 336 miles from the 90D's 303 mile range.
"While the P100D Ludicrous is obviously an expensive vehicle, we want to emphasise that every sale helps pay for the smaller and much more affordable Tesla Model 3 that is in development," the company said on its website. "Without customers willing to buy the expensive Model S and X, we would be unable to fund the smaller, more affordable Model 3 development."
