Fines accrued by businesses jump up by 20%

The number of motoring penalties collected by businesses jumped by more than 20% in the last year, new research has indicated.
According to statistics from leasing giant Lex Autolease, company car and van drivers incurred 21% more penalties than in 2015.
These statistics have been compiled after the firm analysed data from the 353,000 company vehicles it manages across the UK.
Lex attributed the rise in penalties - which equates to a total bill of £14m - to local authorities clamping down on bus lane infringements and illegal parking, with the number of motorists caught by bus lane cameras rising by 27% compared with statistics from 2015.
The number of parking offences committed, meanwhile, rose by 34% compared with 2015's figures.
"The local Government clampdown on 'minor' motoring offences is behind the increase, and UK businesses are footing the bill. There is now a greater need to take action to change driver behaviours, such as providing additional education and training," said Tim Porter, managing director at Lex Autolease. "Organisations can better understand how the increase in fines and penalties impacts their business by benchmarking their data against similar fleets. Businesses can also look to put in place straightforward driver policies and procedures to help reduce the risk and bring down the bill."
