Vauxhall Vectra VXR estate - One minute test

Date: 26 August 2006

Price: £24,792

What's new: Estate version of Vauxhall's very rapid range-topping Vectra.

Excellent: Power delivery is superb, with enough go to give the car exhilarating acceleration in almost any gear at any speed. This makes it the perfect motorway cruising car as well as a great on twistier roads.

Good: Comfort levels impress, especially when you consider the car's sporty nature and the huge £500 optional 19 inch alloys.

Average: Of course with a 0-60mph time of 6.7secs fuel consumption is never going to impress at 27.4mpg, but it isn't that bad either. You expect a 35% tax bracket too for this type of car.

Poor: The Vectra VXR suffers from steering that tugs on harder acceleration, especially on damp roads. Rep-in-a-hurry image.

Verdict: A fun yet extremely practical car at reasonable costs (for what you get). Provides an excellent halo effect for the Vectra range.
