Peugeot 308 2.0 136PS HDi GT: Test Drive

We felt a little confused after sampling Peugeot's 308 flagship.
Despite its more luxurious interior, with features like panoramic roof, half leather seats, impressive 18-inch alloys and gutsier 136PS engine, it was actually the smaller, humbler 110PS diesel we came away raving about.
Our chief concern was the transformation that occurs to the ride when the 136PS diesel's suspension is combined with 18-inch wheels. A supple ride suddenly has a wooden incompliant edge. We weren't big fans of the transformation to the price too. Somehow our car cost the best part of £23k with options. And the cost per mile figure stands at 33.9ppm.
Try the smaller diesel. It's more refined, petrol-like in its ability and enthusiasm, and has the ability to average 60.1mpg, 8.7mpg more then the 2.0-litre.
Sometimes less is undoubtedly more.
Verdict: The 308's ride is ruined by big wheels and firm suspension.
