Peugeot 607 2.2 HDi 170: One Minute Test

Date: 15 February 2007   |   Author:

Prices: £24,995-£29,040
Category: Executive
Key Rival: Citroen C6

What's new: The new 170PS 2.2 diesel used by Peugeot and Citroen makes its way into the executive 607 saloon.

Excellent: The specification. No £26,000 German brand offers satnav, metallic paint, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, leather steeering wheel, auto wipers and lights, and heated seats.

Good: If you spend your days covering massive motorway mileage, then the 607 is more than up to the task, and is a relaxed and comfy mile-muncher. The new engine is probably the best in the range.

Average: While it's fine covering long distances in a straight line, the story isn't so impressive when any kind of driving fun is on the menu.

Poor: Cost. 43.0ppm is a hefty whack in the goolies. Topcalc reckons the 607 will lose more than £18,500 of its value over three years.

Verdict: Impressive specification for the price, but dynamically off-the-pace and lacks badge credibility at this price bracket.
