I love the anticipation of logging in to check the voting for our BusinessCar Awards because there's always excitement as to who is going to win our reader-voted prizes.

Being decided by the readers of BusinessCar and www.businesscar.co.uk means that some categories have stayed in the same hands for a number of years - one in particular hits a 21-year milestone in 2015 - but there are always a few firsts as the market continues to evolve and expand.

By my count, there are five first-time BusinessCar Award winners among the 2015 results, while the overall Business Car of the Year goes to a manufacturer that has never before picked up the top prize. That's gratifying to see, and illustrates the breadth of the marketplace.

We've tweaked the BusinessCar Awards this year, adding four new categories to reflect the growing two-tier nature of certain areas of the car market. With premium brands increasingly encroaching on what was previously volume territory, within one market segment there can be two very different groups of customers, so we've split some of the biggest categories into mainstream and premium brands.

It's an area of the market that will continue to develop as the big German brands in particular continue to seek out and exploit new niches.

But congratulations to all our winners - these awards aren't decided by a group of us sat around a meeting room, but they come from the readers of BusinessCar; that is to say, the end users who rely on these companies, products and services to ensure the smooth running of their businesses.
