Mercedes-Benz has revealed the B-Class facelift, which is initially available from November powered by three diesel and two petrol engines with pricing starting from £22,575.

The manufacturer said an electric version would arrive later in the year.

Mercedes' 1.5-litre diesel unit powers both the B 180 and B 180 eco models; the latter's claimed CO2 figure dipping below the 100g/km barrier with a combined cycle figure 78.5mpg.

Both models will have 109hp, but the non-eco version will be less efficient - achieving 69.9mpg and 108g/CO2 respectively.

The bigger 200 CDI and 220 CDI (powered by the German car maker's 2.1-litre oil-burner) has ratings of 111g/km and 107 g/km CO2 respectively, while power is at 136hp and 177hp for the two models.

Mercedes' 1.6-litre unit powers both petrol models. The B180 has 122hp, emits 129g/km CO2 and has a combined cycle figure of 50.44mpg, while the B2000 has 156hp, emits 130g/km CO2 and has a combined cycle figure of 50.44mpg.

Various models will be offered with the firm's 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and all models come with the company's collision prevention assist system which is designed to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions.

Mercedes claimed the luggage area would not be compromised in the B-Class Electric Drive, thanks to its underbody housing the batteries. At the time of writing Mercedes was unable to supply a mileage range figure for the plug-in version on a full battery charge.

"As the first member of a completely new generation of compact class, for us the B-Class paved the way for great success in this vehicle segment. The pioneer is now in better shape than ever," said Ola Källenius, a marketing and sales member at Mercedes-Benz.

"The B-Class is the perfect (family) car for anyone who attaches importance to practicality, comfort and safety, but at the same time doesn't want to miss out on sportiness or driving dynamics," said Källenius.
