The start point for the best source of fleet information |
Road safety charity Brake has produced a guide on driver training and education, aimed at employers with staff who drive for work.
The report, "Effective driver training and education in companies", offers best practice company case studies and advice. The report includes guidance on:
Case studies include a company that provided one-to-one training for 18 drivers and another company that rolled out an online driver assessment and training programme that led to 50% fewer at-fault accidents.
Brake is also offering 250 memberships to SMEs for free. Membership normally costs £155 + VAT. To become a number, email professional@brake.org.uk with 'free member' in the subject line.
Brake Professional members receives online access to road safety management tools to improve road safety, and free access to Brake events, including a seminar on saving money through risk fleet management.
"The training and education of drivers is an essential part of companies' duty of care," said Dr Tom Fisher, senior research and communications officer at Brake. "By making sure that drivers have the necessary skills, and providing education to improve their attitude and behaviour, companies can have a large impact on road safety - and their bottom line."
"Having a holistic approach to educating, raising awareness and training drivers has the greatest sustained impact," Fisher added.
