Seat has revealed its updated performance-orientated Ibiza Cupra model ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt motor show later this month. Pricing, UK specification and emissions figures will be revealed closer to its January on-sale date.

The Cupra is powered by the firm's 1.8-litre petrol engine, which now produces 192hp, 12hp more than the outgoing model. The vehicle also returns 47mpg.

Seat claims it has upgraded the Cupra's interior which now features a steering wheel and media system from the Leon range, and more soft-touch materials than before with a design that Seat says is inspired by Barcelona.

Seat's new interface is now compatible with Apple and Android devices, thanks to the company's Full Link connectivity pack and Mirror Link, which mirrors a smartphone's display on the car's media system.

The firm's DriveApp is also included, which can personalise the touchscreen with alerts such as weather forecasts and their contact information. The App can read also out posts from Facebook or Twitter using text to speech technology.

"The Ibiza Cupra is an icon of the Seat brand. Its striking design and refined performance promise driving pleasure mile after mile," said Jürgen Stackmann, president of Seat.  "With its innovative connectivity, upgraded interior and further improved quality, the new Ibiza Cupra clearly shows the speed at which our brand continues to develop."
