Honda previews sleek new Civic

Date: 16 September 2016   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Honda has revealed the first official images of the new tenth generation Civic, showing a sleeker, more coupe-like profile.

The firm's long-serving lower medium model is 30mm wider, 130mm longer, 20mm lower and has a 30mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor, giving it the largest footprint of any of any Civic to date, but it's also 16kg lighter.

This latest version heralds a pair of low capacity, turbocharged petrol engines, promising superior economy and emissions to previous petrol offerings (though figures have yet to be revealed) and greater low down pulling power. Known as VTEC Turbo, the units will be available in 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre guises with 129hp and 182hp respectively and the option either of a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission.

The boot remains at 478 litres, the same as the outgoing Civic, which is still sufficient to render it among the largest in the lower medium segment.

Inside the cabin will include features such as smartphone integration from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and, with certain models, a wireless smartphone charging pad that can power up phones without the need to be physically connected.

The firm will also offer a package of safety equipment with the Civic known as Sensing, which includes the likes of adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and forward collision warning.
