A company that clears data from cars says it can help firms comply with the incoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Vehicle Data Clear claims to offer the first service of its kind that enables individuals and organisations to clear any data stored on vehicles without affecting factory settings.
The firm says it believes the service will be welcomed by organisations owning or leasing vehicles ahead of GDPR coming into force on 25 May.
During the life span of a vehicle, user data such as navigation and Bluetooth information is collected and stored within the vehicle's systems.
Vehicle Data Clear says if the data is not removed at the end of the vehicle contract and personal data remains available to others, this would breach data protection rules.
It says its technicians provide a compliancy certificate at the end of each job.
Vehicle Data Clear founder Anesh Chauhan said: "Cars are becoming more connected, both to remote systems for navigation and with our personal information and preferences. However, the general public are unaware of this information being stored.
"Whilst the internet of things will make our lives easier, every new data entry interface increases the number of potential targets for hackers and data needs clearing to protect it from reaching unbeknown third parties.
"Our new service will give individuals and organisations peace of mind that their data is safe."
