Volvo introduces mild hybrid power on refreshed S90 and V90

Date: 21 February 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

The S90 and V90, Volvo's large saloon and estate are being updated with subtle styling tweaks, the option of mild-hybrid assistance, and a number of other options.

On the facelifted S90 and V90, every engine can be fitted with a 48V mild hybrid system. Thanks to an integrated starter-generator and a small battery, the car can store energy recovered from braking and give a small boost to the engine under acceleration. Volvo claims fuel economy improvements of up to 15%.

On the outside, there are now full-LED lights with sequential indicators. The cars get new fog lights a new spoiler design and a new lower front bumper.

Volvo is also promising more options for personalisation, with a range of new exterior colours and wheel options, as well as increased availability for its premium cloth interior. The top trim level can now also be specced with a leather-free option.

However, specific UK details are still to be announced and usually, UK customers get less choice than those in other European markets.

For further improved refinement, the Volvo S90 and V90 can be optioned with an improved Bowers & Wilkins audio system and an advanced air cleaner system that filters the air of almost all particles before it enters the interior.

Finally, the 12V power outlet disappears in favour of two USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad.
