New Ford Explorer electric SUV unveiled

Date: 21 March 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Ford has revealed its new Explorer SUV - an all-electric model it says has been specifically designed for the European market.

The Explorer badge is a familiar one on Ford SUVs, but the model has not been seen in the UK for many years.

Measuring less than 4,500mm in length, the new model's dimensions place it in the C-SUV segment.

Ford says a 10-80% battery charge will be possible in 25 minutes.

Interior technology will include a 14.6in moveable infotainment touchscreen, a compartment for two large smartphones with wireless charging, and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.

Other standard equipment will include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a massaging driver's seat, climate control, and a hands-free electric tailgate.

Available driver assistance systems will include assisted lane change - appearing for the first time on a European Ford - which allows lane change manoeuvres to be carried out automatically once the indicators are activated, and clear exit assist, designed to provide warnings of approaching cyclists before opening doors in busy areas.

There will be 450 litres of boot space, as well as 17 litres of storage in the console between the driver and front passenger seats.

Orders for the new Explorer, which will be available with a choice of Select and Premium equipment grades, will open later this year. UK specs and prices are yet to be announced.
