Orders open for new Volkswagen Passat

Date: 26 January 2024   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has opened orders for the new, ninth-generation version of its Passat lower-medium car.

The model is available only as an estate, and initially with a 150hp petrol mild hybrid engine, with two plug-in hybrid engines due to join the range later this year. The mild hybrid comes with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox, while the plug-in hybrids will come with six-speed DSGs.

The mild hybrid engine comes with active cylinder management, allowing it to be deactivated when conditions allow, enabling the car to coast along with zero tailpipe emissions.

There is a choice of Life, Elegance, and R-Line equipment grades. With the mild hybrid engine, prices start at £38,480 for the Life grade, and rise to £41,580 for Elegance, and £42,830 for R-Line.

VW claims the new Passat is the most aerodynamic estate it has ever produced, with a drag coefficient of 0.25, boosting fuel economy.

Compared with the previous Passat estate, the new model is 144mm longer, with a 50mm longer wheelbase, and 20mm wider.

The car's interior features a redesigned digital cockpit set-up, with the latest MIB4 infotainment system.
