The start point for the best source of fleet information

Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi 5dr Titanium X: Test Drive

Date: 01 July 2008   |   Author: Tristan Young

Category: upper medium
P11D Price: £23,655
Key rival: Toyota Avensis

The BusinessCar Awards-winning Mondeo has gained the refined 175PS 2.2-litre diesel developed by Ford and Peugeot Citroen.

The extra power over the 136PS 2.0-litre diesel Mondeo offers user-choosers welcome, and immediately noticeable, extra performance. However, the on-paper figures don't look that different for 2.2 and 2.0 diesel engines: 0-62mph in 8.7 and 9.2 seconds respectively plus 45.6 and 47.9mpg.

On the upside costs are similarly close with the top-spec 2.2 Titanium X 5dr hatch costing £23,655, just £1000 more than the 2.0-litre. Cost per mile also comes in at a reasonable 57.9p.

Ford expects its highest-powered diesel engine to take 10% of Mondeo sales.

VERDICT: Quicker than a regular Mondeo for only a little extra cost.
