The start point for the best source of fleet information

Vauxhall Agila 1.2 Design: Test Drive

Key rival: Fiat Panda

Vauxhall's new city car is a world away from the boxy Agila of old. The cutesy looks are designed to appeal to female drivers, who are in the majority in this segment.

In fleet terms it's likely to find favour with district nurses and other public sector workers.

The new car is also much better inside, with a funky dashboard featuring a pleasing amount of decent-quality material. Visibility is good, too, which is a boon around town.

The little 86PS 1.2 provides plenty of urban zip, although it does become a little wearing on longer runs. That's partly because of an ill-sited throttle pedal that's fixed at an awkward angle for the driver to maintain a steady position.

Average residual values leave it with a 30.0p per mile figure, but other than that, the Agila's an attractive package and pretty spacious for the sector.

Verdict: Good-looking with decent running costs, but let down by average RVs
