Volkswagen Polo Blue GT: Test Drive Review

The Blue GT isn't the lowest-emitting Polo in the range, nor is it the fastest. What it is is a sort of halfway house between a sensible standard Polo and the warmed-up GTI performance version, kitted out with a 140hp 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and capable of 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and 130mph. It's also good for an official 61.4mpg and 107g/km, which is good, given how quick it is.

You get the same robust build but slightly bland characteristics that the Volkswagen Polo always has, while at £18,155 the P11D is a little lofty for a supermini, so it's worth remembering that cheaper, if less potent, versions of Volkswagen's little hatchback are available.

The inflated P11D and 3% BIK levy can make diesel alternatives of this size a false economy, though. You need to be doing above average mileage to ensure they pay their way, all of which makes the Blue GT really quite appealing next to a well-specced diesel Polo.
