C-charge zone extended

Date: 13 October 2006

Fleet drivers in London will be hit by increased admin and running costs after it was revealed the congestion-charge zone is set to be extended.

London mayor Ken Livingstone has given the go-ahead for the congestion charging zone to be extended westward to include areas such as Kensington, Notting Hill and Chelsea, despite large local opposition. However, Park Lane, which runs between the original zone and the extension, will be exempt.

Charges for this zone will go live on 19 February 2007.

On the same day the timing for the entire zone will shorten by 30 minutes to run from 7am to 6pm. The zone currently runs until 6.30pm.

The £8 charge remains unchanged for all areas.
