FPB call on Livingstone to pay up

Date: 14 January 2007

The Forum of Private Business is lobbying the London Mayor to reimburse businesses for unfair admin charges paid for congestion charge fines.

The additional administrative fees come about because of the current inability for Transport for London to transfer the fine from the owner of the vehicle to the offending driver.

Most companies instead have to pay the fine and then pass on the fine to the driver, swallowing the extra admin generated. With hire companies, this fee could be up to £25 for the standard £50 fine.

The flaws in the system have now been recognised by the Department for Transport, but the FPB is worried that the thousands of pounds spent on the extra charges already will not be recouped.

They are calling on Ken Livingstone for a swift resolution of the matter and for the Mayor to unveil plans demonstrating how businesses will be refunded.
