IAM aims to cut fuel costs

Date: 13 October 2008   |   Author: Tom Webster

Driver training company the IAM has launched a new mpg-saving course dubbed 'ecolution'. Also being offered by its subsidiary Drive & Survive under the same name, it takes 90 minutes and is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 25%

Up to eight delegates can take the course at the same time, with the day costing around £360. The IAM has indicated that discounts will be available for larger bookings.

The company said the course provides new ideas on how to reduce fuel consumption and claimed it's the first to focus purely on this issue. Simon Elstow, IAM Commercial head of training, said the impetus has comes from the market. "We could have done this years ago, but we didn't," he said, saying that customers had traditionally focussed solely on driver safety.

The IAM has trialled the scheme with the Energy Saving Trust and Ford since July.
