New large diesel for Citroen C5 and C6

Date: 17 June 2009

Citroen has announced a new range-topping diesel engine for its C5 and C6 ranges. The 240PS 3.0-litre engine is the same one as is used by Jaguar in its XF as part of a deal between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Jaguar's previous owner Ford.

The six-speed automatic unit, the most powerful production engine in the company's history, replaces the previous 208PS 2.7 HDi, and CO2 drops to 195g/km for both models compared to the current 223 for the C5 and 230 for the C6, despite the increased power. The upper medium C5's fuel economy goes from 33.6 to 38.0mpg, while the executive C6 goes up from 32.5 to 38.0mpg.

The engines will be launched later this summer, with prices due nearer the on-sale date.
