Date: 10 February 2010

Audi's new three-door supermini, the A1, will be available to order from May with prices from £13,000 ahead of the car's launch in the UK towards the end of 2010.

Initially, there will be two petrol engines, a 1.2 and 1.4 TFSI, both at 119g/km, and a 1.6 TDI diesel emitting just 102g/km of CO2.

Petrol engines will return 55.4mpg while the diesel model will give 72.4mpg, and all get engine start-stop and recuperation technology.

Standard features include alloy wheels, air conditioning, CD audio system with MP3 compatibility and ESP anti-skid control.

Audi said the A1 will offer customisation options including the 'roof contrast line' - a contrasting colour scheme for the A, B and C pillars as seen in the first A1 project quattro.

Full pricing and specification will be announced near the A1's debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
