New accreditation for vehicle security installers

Fleet managers wanting to fit aftermarket security products on vehicles can now find an accredited installer through a new scheme.
The Thatcham Recognised Installer scheme, which replaces the VSIB (Vehicle Systems Installation Board) which closed in 2009, provides insurers with proof of equipment installation - which can mean insurance premium reductions.
Thatcham Recognised Installers will need to comply with a range of conditions including proof or relevant product training and PNC (Police National Computer) checks. Installers will then be listed on the Thatcham website "gaining recognition from insurers and consumers and market advantage through their use of the official TRI logo", said a spokesman.
"Drivers benefit from this installer network through assurance of a quality installation, reduced risk of vehicle theft and enhanced vehicle re-sale value", he added.
Mike Briggs, head of vehicle security, at Thatcham, said, "Thatcham have moved quickly with the TRI scheme to provide an effective quality checking scheme for insurers and the motoring public.
"By increasing the quality of certification within the system the scheme will reduce the risk of fraudulent certificates and incorrect installations, whilst providing a competitive marketing edge for those recognised installers."
