Company cars make a comeback

The company car has been making a comeback in importance since the end of the recession two years ago, according to the Company Car Trends survey from GE Capital, Fleet Services.
The perceived importance of the company car for essential car users was rated 8.7 out of10 in the latest research, compared to 8.0 in Q3 of 2010 and 7.2 in Q3 of 2009.
In the third quarter of 2007, before the onset of the recession, the score reached as high as 9.7.
Of the 250 fleet decision makers quizzed in the latest survey, 45% gave a maximum score of 10 in answer to the question while 85% gave a rating of 8.0 or above.
For non-essential car users, the most recent aggregate score was 5.7 - up from 5.1 in 2010 and 4.7 the previous year.
Gary Killeen, commercial director for GE Capital Fleet Services UK, said the research indicates that "the company car remains the best business transport solution available when costs are being closely scrutinised".
