Growth forecast in van rental sector

Date: 10 January 2011

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has forecast a growth in demand for van rental and leasing in 2011.

BVRLA chief executive John Lewis said operators were investing in new vehicles and that there was "no danger" of the market not having enough capacity to meet demand.

"We appear to be moving towards a more balanced market where supply capacity is more closely matched to demand," he said.

Lewis added that the tumultuous end to last year, which saw a number of companies exit the market, go into administration or change hands, illustrated that smaller operators relying on a cost-based product offering struggled to compete with the economies of scale leveraged by the larger players, who could also invest in value added services such as fleet management.
