Hitachi tests electric future

Date: 28 June 2011

Leasing firm Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions is to offer visitors to its Newbury and Trowbridge offices test drives in the Nissan Leaf and Citroen C-zero electric cars.

The battery-powered vehicles will also serve as pool cars for staff traveling between the two offices and for employees attending meetings within their range of 80-100 miles.

Hitachi has installed charging points at both offices and staff using the cars will record details of their journeys with feedback to build up user date to share with customers.

Boss Simon Oliphant said: "Our customers are increasingly asking us about using electric vehicles for their business but have concerns through lack of experience with the technology. Having these vehicles on site is the perfect opportunity to give customers a taste of the future and the benefit of our experience."

Hitachi Capital has already supplied an electric Mitsubishi i-Miev to the Environment Agency on contract hire.
